Ben: I would say the spark started even before the company did. When I was 14 years old, I learned how to fly and that really set me on the trajectory for understanding how things work.
Paul: My first job was in doing software for aircraft and that’s where I kind of got that passion for it, for the industry. I’d like to be able to take problems and create solutions from that.
Ben: I’ve known Paul for almost as long as I’ve been in the industries. I saw the opportunity for us to team up.
Paul: We’re here at Freya systems.
Ben: We provide data analytics and software consultancy. We can help our customers predict when failures are going to happen. That can be from the flight computer, to the mission computer, a train, a ship, a piece of manufacturing equipment. All of these things we can look, based off of the data that they are recording. We can look and we can predict it for when an anomaly is going to happen. When something is going to fail or if it’s going to start to become inefficient and that prediction provides our customers with key information that allows them to be much more effective in how they manage those things.
Paul: It’s a partnership with our customers so that we can get the information to them in the right format and the right way for them to use it.
Bob: I worked with Freya Systems when I was with the Boeing Company and we were developing software to maintain helicopters. I’m in a small nonprofit now. I get the same level of consideration as I did when I was part of a multi-billion dollar company.
Paul: We say we’re trusted advisors. Somebody that can get into the space, can understand the needs of people, we can present ideas to people but we can also push back. It’s a lot to do with that, it’s a lot to do with not just being a yes person. It’s understanding the context of what they need and when they need it.
Ben: Learning is a huge thing for us. It goes all the way back to the name of the company. Freya is the Norse goddess in mythology. She really stole what was magic and learning. Software is a little bit like magic so those things resonated very much. The values about learning and continuing to grow all come from the mythology of Freya.
